NATIONAL OVERVIEW: Impact of COVID-19 & Lockdown on Persons with Disabilities in India
EVARA Foundation conducted a survey to find out the “Impact of COVID-19 and Lockdown on Persons with Disabilities in India” from 18 July 2020 to 27 July 2020.
We received responses from 2089 Persons with Disabilities spread across 23 Indian States and Union Territories.
The survey was presented in two languages: Hindi and English. EVARA Foundation has wide reach among PwDs in India through its social media channels. Therefore, the online survey questionnaire was distributed majorly through three social media platforms – Facebook, YouTube channel and Twitter. The survey was also distributed via email campaign and other digital platforms. In addition the questionnaire was made available at the EVARA Foundation website’s (www.evara.org).
Questions related with the identity of the respondent were not asked in the questionnaire to ensure comfort of the respondents in providing more realistic and accurate status of their lives.
The questionnaire contained both closed and open questions depending on the context. In the closed questions, respondents were required to choose one among certain options. In open questions, respondents were given the flexibility to choose more than one option as well as write any specific details, if they wished to by selecting the “other” option. This was particularly applicable to issue-based questions. Furthermore, the respondents were also provided with a comment space to freely write about their issues and concerns, if they wished to.
